Strútsfoss is located in Villingadal, which is inside Suðurdal in Fljótsdal. The waterfall is divided into two parts, the lower waterfall is about 100 meters high and the upper waterfall about 20 meters. Below the waterfall flows Strútsá into Strútsgil. It is believed that the waterfall gets its name from the steep cliff rocks in the canyon. Strútsgil is composed of basalt lava, sediment layers, and there can be found many red and yellow-brown interlayers.
