Stjórnarfoss waterfall is one among many alluring waterfalls in Iceland. It is unusual in structure and different from many other gorge waterfalls, making it very graphic and interesting. Basecamp and facilities

There is a big parking lot just by the start of the trail that leads to the waterfall. From there, a path lies 300 meters up, straight to the waterfall. This parking lot has been used as a basecamp before. There is a camping ground without facilities close by. Phone coverage is good.

Risk factors

Area around waterfalls is slippery due to water sprays. The hills around the waterfall are palagonite rock, which is rather soft, and rocks falls easily due to erosion.

Visitors

Stjórnarfoss is on Iceland’s most frequented route, the south coast, so many tourists go through here. They tend to stop by the road to take a picture of the mountain and continue with their journey.
