Djúpalónssandur is a black sand beach in a small cove on the southwestern tip of Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Also known as the black sand pebble beach, this location is famous for its unique rock formations and the wreckage of a British trawler that lies on its shore. The surrounding lava flowed to the sea and created a stunning landscape of rugged cliffs and stacks with holes and graphic formations. There are also two small lagoons that rise and fall with the tide. This location offers a symphony of contrast between the crashing white waves and the black sands that glisten when wet against the backdrop of rugged cliffs, thus creating a mesmerizing tableau of textures and hues.
