Skógafoss is one of the most stunning waterfalls in Iceland. It is 60 meters high and 25 meters wide, with a powerful flow that creates a misty spray that often generates a beautiful rainbow which seems to come out of the water itself. You can get very close to the waterfall, almost touching it. There is also a path beside it that leads to a viewing platform with a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. This waterfall is very popular and has been used in many films, commercials and music videos. One production even had a person walking on a line over the waterfall, with security precautions and rigs, of course.
Accessibility
The location lies 5 minutes off route number 1, a good gravel road that suits all cars leads to a big parking lot, a few hundred meters from the waterfall. If you want to go to the top, there are 370 steps to climb with equipment.

Basecamp and facilities
The area has a big parking lot and basic toilet facilities for visitors, perfect for big basecamps. There is a restaurant and a popular campsite at this location. The restaurant can be rented as a production office or other production facilities. Phone coverage is excellent.
Risk factors
Constant mist and spray from the waterfall can cause slippery surfaces by the waterfall itself and on the slope next to it where you climb to the top. The river has strong currents, so swimming or diving next to waterfall should be done and planned with professionals.
Visitors
The area is very popular with tourists but can be managed with PAs or park rangers. Skógafoss is also a very popular campsite where people stay with their tents for few days.
