Seltún is a geothermal area in Krýsuvík, next to the main road with a medium size parking lot and small basic toilet facilities for visitors. The area is known for its bubbling mud pots, hot springs and steam vents. The landscape is colourful as a result of the mineral deposits that have been brought to the surface by the geothermal activity. The steam vents are particularly impressive with small plumes of steam randomly situated in the mountain hill and grounds. Visitors can walk along wooden boardwalks that wind through the area, allowing them to get close to the geothermal features while also protecting them from hot and unstable ground. It is possible to go off the path but for that, a specialist is needed and a special permit. The views from the boardwalks, however, are spectacular and the area is highly interesting at all hours of the day.
