At the entrance of Selárdalur valley is the unique museum of Samúel Jónsson (1884-1969). Samúel has been called “the artist with the child’s heart.” When he retired, he built an art museum and a church, made models of distant landmark buildings, and painted beautiful works of art in Selárdalur, despite not having had any schooling in art or the opportunity to travel. Outside the buildings is an interesting sculpture garden that features many of Samúel Jónsson’s concrete sculptures. The sculptures are scattered throughout the garden and often integrated into the surrounding landscape. The picturesque settings of Arnarfjörður provide the perfect backdrop for all kinds of filming, showcasing the stunning landscapes that inspired Samúel’s simple-hearted artistry.
