Pétursey is a majestic mountain and a prominent feature in the landscape along the south coast of Iceland. From afar, it looks like a giant circus tent in the middle of a sandy desert. The mountain is a 275-metre-high tuff rock and used to be an island, back when the ocean level was higher. The black beaches on each side of it offer a great view of this mountain and as a backdrop it really doesn’t get any better. You can easily drive around the mountain and find an angle that suits you.
