The beach belongs to Akranes municipality. It is one of three Blue Flag beaches in Iceland.
Shooting permits are issued by the local government

Basecamp and facilities

There is a medium size parking lot just above the beach where there is only a few meters walk onto the beach. There is another, maybe more convenient, location for basecamp at the sports arena, a little further from the beach.

Risk factors

Working in the sand can be tiresome. The waves and the ocean can be treacherous, and the area is known for being very windy. The temperature of the ocean ranges from 3°C to 12°C between seasons.


Akranes is a port town of 7500 inhabitants. So close to Reykjavík, the town is booming with all kinds of services and activities of a big town. Langisandur is a popular outdoor area in Akranes where visitors bathe, bike, take long walks or play on the beach.
