Hveragerði is a small town situated on the south coast of Iceland. It is known for its geothermal activity and stunning landscapes. The hills surrounding Hveragerði are colourful because of mineral deposits from active fumaroles, steam vents and mud pots. The location of Hveragerði is unusual, as the town sits on top of a highly active volcano zone, which provides an abundance of hot springs and other natural wonders. The locals have harnessed the energy and the town is famous in Iceland for greenhouses, plants and greenery. En-route to Hveragerði, you drive down a steep heathland that offers a fantastic, panoramic view of the town, surrounded by white steam smoke from neighbouring hot springs.
