This location is a 30-kilometres-deep fjord in the western part of Iceland. The fjord is rich with history as it was home to a British naval base in WWII. It is also rich with picturesque landscapes. The fjord is surrounded by towering mountains and cascading waterfalls. The road is also very beautiful and has been used in many car commercials over the years. Glymur Waterfall is one of Hvalfjörður’s notable attractions and is one of Iceland’s highest waterfalls. At the top of Glymur, there is a fantastic view of the surrounding landscape. The waterfall itself cascades down a rocky cliff face, plummeting over 198 meters into a deep pool below. Hvalfjörður offers a variety of shooting locations for all kinds of productions for the whole 70 km.

Basecamp and facilities
There are several medium and big parking lots along the 70-kilometre-long road that lies through this location. There are also a few community centres, farms with fields and hotels in the fjord that could accommodate basecamps of various sizes depending on where you shoot. Phone coverage ranges from good to excellent.
Risk factors
Depending on where you shoot. The hike to Glymur is rough and there is a 200-meter drop from the top of the waterfall. Rockslides can occur in the mountains in the fjord and the road through the area is dangerous in snowy conditions.
Visitors
The area is a medium tourist attraction. But the waterfall Glymur is a popular hiking trail for tourists and locals alike. With the right permit, the waterfall and the trail to it can be closed. The main road through Hvalfjörður can be closed as well with roadblocks letting people through in turns.
