Húsavík is the whale capital of Iceland. It is a booming, picturesque town of around 2400 inhabitants, located in the beautiful bay of Skjálfandi with over 23 species of whales swimming in the ocean around the town. Many puffins inhabit the bay area, so Húsavík is swarming with life, tourists, locals, and animals alike. The town, like so many others in Iceland, is situated around the harbour area, where almost all locals have had their livelihood from since the last century. The town parades many beautiful houses, some quaint and colourful, and just by the harbour, a pretty Icelandic style church watches over the bay. Many productions have been shot here, due to the beauty of the town, the Icelandicness of it, and the fact that almost all the services that you need are local. Will Ferrell’s Eurovision film was shot here, for example. Many productions come to Húsavík to catch footage of whales jumping and swimming, be it for a photo bank or POV for other shots filmed elsewhere. Icelandic productions use gentlegiants.is as their go-to crew for various filming as they are experienced and know the area very well. They offer a wide range of services, tailored to meet the specific needs of each production. From Húsavík, there are endless possibilities for taking a boat across the bay to remote locations or islands and the fjords that are not accessible by car.
