Mt Axlarhyrna is a majestic mountain, located at the entrance of Snæfellsnes National Park. It features grey and red scree slopes with a dramatic rock cliff at the top that stretches for a few hundred meters, giving the mountain a perilous appearance. Axlarhyrna stands 433 meters above the famous Hótel Búðir. Due to the colourful slopes, the mountain appears to adopt new hues in different lighting conditions. The mountain also has a unique history in Icelandic folklore as Axlar-Björn, Iceland’s only known serial killer, lived on a farm at the foot of the mountain 500 years ago.
